Really, really sorry to be the one to report this: stopped in B'wood Cyclery for some Hammer Gel today. When I got a 25 percent discount, I noticed that everything in the store was 25 percent off. I asked the clerk why and was told that the bike shop's shutting down in July (12th?). Whatever inventory is left will go to auction on Ebay. Talked briefly to Dick Allen and he said that business is just way off . He plans on resuming his dental practice. Thought folks might want to stop by and wish him good luck, buy a Cyclery water bottle for remembrance, whatever. Second local bike shop closing. Gotta be a tough business.
Stopped by today--it was depressing with very empty shelves/ racks. Hard to belive that area with rapidly growing middle class population can't support local bike shops. Or maybe the web and mail orders are the wave of the future.
In any event thanks to Dick for cohosting bike movie nite, opening his shop early on Sunday rides, having one of the coolest bathrooms around, free pretzels, and being real excited about cycling equiptment--though I think that 14 lb bike that can only be ridden uphill for one hour is a little over the top.
