I heard that Mitchell Canyon is rideable in the mud - not so. I went over there on Saturday and got about 50' past the gate. It was so muddy and hoofed out by horses that it was basically unrideable. So I went back home and had 45 minutes of work hosing off the bike and shoes. What a waste of time.
Sunday, I tried Mt. Diablo again - this time on the road. Started at Arbolado Park and it was nice and sunny all the way. It felt like 70 degrees on top. This made up for not riding up on New Years Day.
Yesterday, I wanted to ride in the Napa Valley. I called a friend who said it was foggy, so I went down to Livermore and rode Mines Rd. out to the Junction from the corner of Del Valle and Mines Rd.'s. No fog, but it was cloudy and cold at 9 am. The clouds dissipated and it got warmer. I got to the Junction Cafe at 11 and was the only one there. I sat outside enjoying the warm sun and ate a basket of french fries. I only saw 2 cyclists all day and very few motorcyclists. There's lots of water flowing in the creeks and the hills are nice and green.
There have been numerous reports of a giant ball of fire being spotted in the sky around Concord and Walnut Creek. It only appears for a few hours a day, and I am told that it is only visible west of Kirker Pass.
I think this ball of fire in the sky may be something called "the sun", but it's been so long since I've seen it that I'm not sure I'd recognize it at this point.
