Okay - so last year when I took up mountain biking again I decided that once I could make it up Stewartville's Wall w/o stopping I'd be ready to try the trails at Diablo. Sooo... since this weekend's weather looks primo for a mountain bike ride (and I've attained the forementioned goal ) Thom and I are planning on starting at the Mitchell Canyon Parking lot, riding Donner Canyon to Meridian Ridge, Propspector's Gap to North Peak, the single track section to Devil's Elbow. Because of course I must turn this into an epic ride. Krebs shows it to be about 6.7 miles one way.
If anyone else is in a suitably lunatic frame of mind you're welcome to join us. Meet at 8 AM at Mitchell Canyon. Planned departure at 8:15.
Veronica, Please take this as friendly input. The route you have chosen is ugly nasty tough - as in the best climber I know considers it a real challenge. Much better (IMO) to go up Mitchell to Deer Flat and then over to prospectors and onward, or even better to continue fron Deer Flat to Juniper and then summit via the road and back down to Devils Elbow and do the single track as a descent to Prospectors and then to North peak. Be careful on the single track - this is where Joel went down and was coptered off the mountain.
Thanks Chris! I was hoping someone who had been up there would offer some advice. I've hiked parts of it - but not all of it. We'll be changing the ride around as you suggested.
