Just wanted to express my thanks to the following members for their hands-on help during the Brentwood Corn Festival...Chris P (for his time, truck and physical labor in hauling my stuff forth and back); to Dave (who was there in spirit while HE was fighting a fire, and who, along with Donna W, printed extra newsletters and reg forms for the membership drive ...we may be seeing some new faces); to Tony S (for reminding me that there was no room for riding the trainer when we could be practicing "Dolce far niente!"); to Chris S and Ole (for being a great tag team Saturday night and teaching me a bunch about concrete slump tests); and to Veronica and Thom (who each take top honors for riding as a "spotted jersey" cow and raking in the donations along with lots of laughs).
Friday night was almost a disaster when high winds blew down my awning hours before the show (and my kind neighbors took the time to pack it all up while I was gone) and then the winds bedeviled everyone all night. Saturday morning I arrived to find a spare shade tarp over my booth, courtesy of the neighbors. The 12 hour day ended with a cool fireworks show. Sunday was toasty. A severe case of lethargy set in and the trainer saw no action. But, in the long run, over $500 was raised for the LAF and I'll never forget the grandma in the wheelchair who was watching Le Tour 3x a day, could tell me who had crashed and who had dropped out that day, who had won the stage and where Lance had finished in the peloton. And a little girl named Amy who had a hair-do like mine, but because of chemo.
The wearyellow/LIVESTRONG wrist bands were a hot topic (wish I had brought dozens more). Speaking of which, go to this website and see who you come up with (click on Refresh, if necessary)....
