Pedalers:
I'm still looking for volunteers for a (kid's) bicycle rodeo set for 10:00 to 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 26th at Brentwood Elementary (in Brentwood).
We're going to check the condition of the children's helmets and bicycles, making any adjustments possible and letting the kids ride a circuit set up to look like a city (signs etc. provided by the county health dept.)
You don't have to be a bike repair expert (I know I'm not), just have interest and desire to help. So far Joann S., Delta Dave, Connie D. and I are committed. Please call me (925-634-5730), or e-mail [email protected] and join us.

Sorry Mike, I can't make it, as I'll be questioning my own sanity whilst climbing endless hills for the Top Hat on Saturday.
Can you please do me a favor though? Would you please instruct both the kids and the parents on the proper way to wear helmets? This has become a real pet peeve of mine, seeing kids wearing helmets that are tilted way back on their heads. The parents should know how to position them properly on the little ones, but 9 out of 10 kids I see - especially the 3-8 year olds - aren't wearing them right.
On Sunday I saw a woman out riding with her child, and her helmet was tilted so far back off her forehead that the visor was pointing almost straight up. It took restraint not to pull over, flag her down and show her (and her child) how to properly wear helmets.
Um, yeah. So that's my rant for today. Sorry!

This sounds more like a BITTER HAG rant than one from HILL SLUG.

Yes, of course helmet adjustment and instruction are part of the Rodeo.
Of course, I forgot my helmet for my ride home from work the other morning. I hollered at those who "let me" ride without when I returned. They'll never do that again.
