I know that this message board is for ad hoc informal rides but I'd like to alert the membership to an upcoming change in the starting location for the Sunday morning club ride (which will still start at 9 am until Daylight Savings Time is back). The new starting place will be discussed during the next board meeting and general meeting on Sunday, Feb 1. In the meantime, some members have already begun to gather and depart and return from the ride at Panama Bay coffee house near Albertson's (at Balfour and Walnut in Brentwood, just down the street from Dick's old shop). The reasons for the change are numerous....above all, a bicycle -friendly management and staff; restrooms!; excellent coffee as well as smoothies (and the owner, Gary, is now selling bagels ); ample parking and less car traffic; outdoor seating plus a picnic/trellis area across the parking lot. Please spread the word and give Panama Bay a try this Sunday. Thanks, joann |

Joann,
I'm for changing the starting location of the Sunday ride, but,I don't think we should change until everyone is notified in the newsletter and in this website, after The Board makes the decision. Last Sunday I believe everyone started at the old place and ended at Panama Bay.
Hope to see everyone at the Social Meeting on the first.

Change number four.... At least the start and end location for some of the rides will be the same.
Add rolling through downtown Brentwood past city park at 9:10 (or whatever will be consistent). |

I strongly encourage anyone who has an opinion about this matter - either yay or nay on changing - to attend the board meeting / social meeting this Sunday. That is where the decision will be made.
Board meeting: 6pm, Sunday, February 1st at Aladino's Pizza. (Just before the social meeting.)
You need to be there if you want your voice in this decision to be heard.

As someone who was vocally "pissy" about the last time the starting place change was proposed--this one seems ez and is not fraught with controversy and politics. Bottom line--Panama Bay has a bathroom, the "Brentwood Cyclery site" does not, and as Brentwood Cyclery no longer exists there is no cycling related reason to start from there. Otherwise, if you choose to start the ride from Panama Bay or leave it where it is, either choice seems fine.

The change in starting location is fine with me as long as it's OK to park your car in the lot without getting ticketed/towed. Some people (not me) drive to the ride start.
If parking is an issue, then I would suggest the Marsh Creek Staging Area (start of the defunct Saturday ride) would be better than the old bike shop - ample parking, porta-potties, and a little closer to Antioch.
