Can't somebody please please please scan an area map to show interesting and/safe routes or even [really stretching here] location of standard club rides? (I still can't figure out where some of these starting places or staging areas are and mere verbal descriptions elude me.) Road conditions are changing so much here that we should share knowledge of good, safe routes as well as of totally dangerous ones. It could even be published in the newsletter. It could be a nice gift for new members, new riders or even as a page on websitelike 'DP's Favorite Rides' for visitors and others to share. Oh, yes, and world peace too, please. Thanks!

Festina lente!

It had crossed my mind to add a "maps" link to the start places of our club rides, but I've been extremely remiss in updating the site beyond the bare minimums lately. (Jay - get your mouse off that "Reply" button.)

As for routes, I'm not the one to answer that one. But I can put them on the site (eventually, maybe even before the next century) if someone else puts them together.

World Peace is a tad past my expertise. The best I can manage is Whirled Peas. Close mais no cigar, I suspect.

Did Hag call my name?

In any event go to http://home.comcast.net/~prathman/MainPage.htm
Valley Spokespeoplemen have a nice library of bike routes in the area.

The Gruppo Pumpkincycle site has what has evolved into one of my favorite rides
http://www.geocities.com/pumpkincycle/gruppopumpkincycleridemap1.html
This ride can be expanded and made harder by adding options like the JFK Univ/ Orinda-Happy Valley Hill, the Oakland Hills both ways to Castro Valley, bonus detour up and down Centennial --with most of these changes from downtown Martinez it probably would be a full century.

Now--go back to putting some NEW photos on the web..

I think it would be pretty cool to have a list of about 10 select rides in the East County area and post them on this website. This would be a collection of route sheets to start, maybe scanned and annotated maps later. I have some mapping software that I can use to generate mileages to the turns, etc. But, how about some routes? Here's a few that come to mind (below)

1. Los Vaqueros reservoir
2. to Clayton via Deer Valley, Marsh Creek and return over Kirker Pass and Buchannan
3. The Deer Valley, Morgan Territory, Vasco loop.
4. Out and back to Morgan Territory park via Deer Valley and Marsh Creek
5. Out over the Antioch Bridge for a loop out in the delta-- maybe to Isleton or Rio Vista.
6. Bike trail ride
7. The standard Lone Tree, Davison, Hillcrest route
8. Maybe some mountain bike rides or combination on/off-road routes.

OK, I'm stretching a bit because you all probably know better routes and I don't do the Sunday ride so I don't know routes from there.

There's Empire Mines and the housing areas around it. I like to do Empire as an out and back and then go down to Judsonville. It's a nice long climb with a screaming descent at the end - very fun on the tandem! but I do it more often on my single - and then you can climb the same hill again, by turning right up Hanson and it's back to that gorgeous descent.

Then there is the Grand Prix and it's many modified forms. And if you want total flat, there are rides to the north and east such as Jersey Island Rd and Bethel Is and Holland Riverside Marina. Go early in the day to avoid most traffic.
