This is just an alert and a recommendation for the most underrated century in California. In my opinion Pedal Around the Puddle is the best century after the "big 4"--great course, very good support workers for a non bike club event, mediocre food along route but great end of ride bbq meal.

The 65 miler hugs Clearlake along roads that are much nicer than what is around Tahoe, and has some "attention getting climbs." The 100 miler has lots of serious/ demanding climbs in the middle of the route (even more if you get lost.) If you want to do more than 65 mile but aren't a glutton for punishment you can (unofficially) do the 65 miler, and then tack on the last easy 15 miles from the longer route.

In any event--highly recommended.

I'll second and third Jay's report on the post ride meal. Kenny's famous barbeque is worth the ride even if all I do is the thirty miler.
I am considering doing the 100K with Bruce 'Tylor Hamilton' Roby but neither one of us want to go over Mt. Konocti; trying to figure a way around it on Lakeshore Blvd. I'll be there for the dinner though!
