We all know that the Contra Costa Water Districts slogan is "keep the public out," except during an election year when asking for more bond $$$. Otherwise, whether eagles nesting yards from the road (oh!, that's right motorcycles OK) or during a "pink"/"teal" alert--they always have a reason to close the facility to the public.
As some of you know, a few weeks agao during one of our (now standard) security alerts, we were harrassed when going near the dam. National security--you know. So how ironic that today at Party Pardee--we and scores of other cyclists were able to ride on and cross the dam at Pardee Reservoir??

On a ride a fre months ago, we weren't even allowed to ride down the road (so at least this seems to be an improvement). Also, the trail across the Contra Loma Dam is closed.
As a mountain biker, I'm disappointed with the number of trails (i.e., fire roads) which are off-limits to cyclists. I think it would be a great ride to be able to ride from one end of the reservoir to the other and loop back along Vasco road.

The CCWD isn't the only ones who freaked out over that whole "no access to dams" ruling - the road over the Folsom dam has been indefinately closed. This was a commute route for thousands of cars every day. Those people now have to go several miles out of their way, through an already clogged and backed up route just because someone said "maybe we should worry about dams".

| In case no one noticed, we went back down to yellow alert yesterday. Dam access is now offically available as part of the Sunday ride. Whoo hoo! |
